2007 CONVENTION

Each fall our club holds it's annual Convention. The Convention is a weekend "get away" intended for cycling, seeing club friends and families, site seeing and discussing a little club business. Several times in past years, we have had as many as fifty people attend the Convention. We try to choose a site within a three hour drive of South Jersey, but always a place good for cycling. Past sites include Cape May and Point Pleasant NJ, Lancaster and Allentown Pa, Fredricktown and Easton Md. Several Conventions have been in or near Ocean City, Maryland.
The Convention runs from Friday through Sunday afternoon. We always have a Friday ride and when possible members will ride from South Jersey to the Convention site. Several times this has included taking the bike on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. In recent years this has become an extremely pleasant trip. While Friday dinner is normally unplanned, early arrives usually try to get together at one restaurant.
On Saturday we usually have a longer ride for the experienced cyclist and some shorter versions for the more saddle sensitive cyclists. The non cycling family members use this time for some peaceful autumn site seeing or just relaxing around the motel or hotel area. We always get together for a planned Saturday dinner. This is often one of the most enjoyable parts of the Convention weekend, talking and joking from table to table in our little set aside section of the restaurant. Either at the restaurant after the meal or back at the motel we try to get together to discuss some club business. In recent years the business discussion has been very brief. The meetings are much more a continuation of the socializing begun at dinner.
Sundays vary greatly in the activity. We usually try to have some type of ride available. Often people will drive together to a final site seeing spot before heading home.
According to our club by-laws if there is enough money in the treasury the members can recommend to reimburse some amount of the motel cost. The amount can vary greatly depending on the condition of the treasury, the number of conventioneers, and the cost of the motel.
