Started in 1983, this is the
28 year of the Get Ready Metric century ride. Cyclists who have
not yet had a serious ride this year can enjoy easy
pedaling
through flat to slightly rolling terrain of the farm country
of
Southern New Jersey. Start out from historic Fort
Mott State Park by the Delaware River in Pennsville, climb
and walk through the old Fortress's paths and tunnels where not
a single
shot was fired in anger. Right next to it sits the historic Civil
War Finns Point National Cemetery, and easy five-mile bike
ride.
Start anytime between 8 am
to 10 am and ride at your own pace. You can choose to ride just
the first loop,
enjoy lunch by the Riverview Pavilion
and
call
it
a day, or ride both
loops and enjoy lunch after a full day of great
riding. To do both loops, you start by riding the first loop
out to the 15 mile water stop (Quinton Twp Municipal Building).
You then pick up the second loop which begins and finishes at
the
water
stop.
After
finishing
the second loop you resume the first loop back to Fort
Mott.
The
second
loop is more challenging
than
the
first,
with a 9 mile series of moderate hill climbs. This loop will have
sag service but no water stop within the loop. A few stores
and
delis are located along or near both routes. Cue sheets, painted
route markings, and sag wagon service and the water/banana stop
are provided.
Cue sheets, painted road markings
and sag wagon services are provided. In addition to food, the entry
fee includes a give away item. In past years these have included
sew-on patches, high quality water bottles, first aid kits,
and tube patch kits. This year we are considering several new
items. Fee for South Jersey Wheelmen members is $10.00 which includes
the give away item. Club T-Shirts are available for purchase
at the ride. Come out and enjoy!
Biking can help with reducing high cholesterol.
