    Vermont Cycling Vacation

    August 2007: Thursday 16 - Sunday 19

The trip is a 4 day mini-vacation at the Inn at Long Trail, in Rutland, Vermont (Directions). The Inn is located at the top of a "hill" between Killington and Pico mountains.  It is a rustic Inn with quaint rooms, two common areas containing some very tree-like furniture, a hot tub and its very own Irish Pub, McGrath's.  They serve a house version of half-and-half there made with Guinness and Long Trail Ale.  The Long Trail Ale makes an arduous journey up the "hill" from the Long Trail brewery.  There are a number of breweries in the area and all are worth the trip.  The area also has antiques, historical sites (some of which have been visited on previous bike trips) museums and shopping.  There are plenty of things for the non-cyclist in the family.

On Friday and Saturday mornings, we meet in the parking lot and go for a ride.  All rides start downhill but a shuttle is available if you don't want to climb back up.  The routes taken in the past have always been quiet, winding, beautiful, hilly and some have been historically interesting.  Killington Mountain is open for mountain biking and is highly recommended!  This leaves the afternoons free.  We then meet for dinner as a group.  The dinner is set by the chef, and if you have any dietary considerations, please let the chef know on arrival.

    CLUB PICNIC

    July:(date to be announced)

Each summer we get together for a club picnic. We dip into the treasury to pay for some hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, and other summer picnic foods. Members often offer to bring some of their personal gourmet delights. We usually try to put together a bike ride from another site to the picnic or from the picnic site itself. In resent years the picnic has been held at Norma's in Sea Isle City. We have had a ride from Millville to the picnic with the hardier bikers riding back to Millville and the less hardy (or after a few beers) driving back with friends or family.
