South Jersey Wheelmen Special Events

Annual Vermont Trip:

Details 2017:  August, 24 - 27+)

The trip is a 4-5 day mini-vacation at the Inn at Long Trail, in Rutland, Vermont (Directions). The Inn is located at the top of a "hill" between Killington and Pico mountains. It is a rustic Inn with quaint rooms, two common areas containing some very tree-like furniture, a hot tub and its very own Irish Pub. Here among other beers, they serve a house version beer made with half&half Guinness and Long Trail Ale. There are several beer breweries in the area and all are worth the trip. The area also has antiques, historic sites, museums and shopping providing plenty of enjoyment for the non-cyclist in the family.

On Friday and Saturday morning, we meet in the parking lot to begin our bike ride. All rides start downhill with a shuttle available for those who do not want to climb back up. In the past, routes have always been quiet, beautiful, hilly - some with historic interest. Killington Mountain is open for mountain biking and is highly recommended! This leaves the afternoons free. We then meet for dinner as a group. The dinner is set by the chef. If you have dietary considerations, please let the chef know on arrival.

Each year in April, the SJW rent the large, modern East Creek Cabin in Belleplain State Park for a weekend. We enjoy all the nature, camaraderie and benefits of camping without roughing it. The cabin is located on Rt 347. Each end of the cabin has a large room with 15 bunks and a large bathroom. The middle of the cabin has a large well equipped kitchen and a large dining area with a beautiful fireplace. On the lake side of the cabin is a large porch with chairs.
All members are welcome. You can come down for a quick visit, a full day or the whole weekend. We will be doing
trail biking and road biking. If you have a canoe or kayak bring it.

We have reserved the same Fort Mott pavilion used for years for the Get Ready Metric. We hope to continue enjoying this lovely park with a club ride and picnic. A short and long ride has been developed using portions of the former Get Ready Metric.

               It's Party Time:   Sat 5/21/16

Lets all get together for a ride and backyard picnic. Mary & Gary will be hosting at their home at 622 Canhouse Rd, Pittsgrove NJ.

We will start the day at 10 am with a choice of two rides:

C pace - 25 mi ride led by Mary

B pace - 42 mi ride led by Gary

Both start and finish at our house and will cover a portion of the new Jersey Devil south route. After the rides you can clean up in one of our two bathrooms. While waiting for final food preparations you can take a short walk with Gary to check on the bluebird families that have taken up residence in three of his bluebird boxes. Perhaps we will also get some insights from a local bluebird expert. After our walk we will certainly deserve a little session of craft beer tasting. After eating what will surely be our usual great SJW picnic food, we will have a fire in our fire pit. Here we can tell scary stories or whatever else comes to mind.

Please RSVP no later than 5/16/15

Organized Potluck BBQ:  everyone brings food but, MUST  call/text/email or 609-247-8623  for what food is needed.
